now. there were some big thunderstorms last night. temperatures in the 70's. partly to mostly cloudy at the present time. we do have some rain in southern pennsylvania. that is moving away. rk drive out of the rain as you drive down to maryland. we could see stronger or severe thunderstorms this afternoon with high temperatures in the upper 80's. for now to the news desk. >> a horrifying day in michigan. a violent end when a suspected gunman took his own life. police say rodrick dantzler shot and killed seven people in two separate locations. he then led police on a chase before taking three people hostage inside an apartment. negotiations with the suspect led to one hostage being released. a baseball game turns deadly as a rangers fan tries to catch a ball. this happened after josh hamilton flipped the ball back up to the crowd. the man tumbled 20 feet to the concrete below. he was taken to hospital but he died from his injuries. the president of the team said he and the team are deeply saddened to learn that the man who felt passed away. >> british royalty comes to america today. t

this morning. there in time's square, people watched on a number of big tv screens. crowds in florida witnessed the last launch, live. these were images from the roadways were people stopped the cars and crossed the road to get the best vantage point. now, the last launch was a must see event at the maryland science center in the inner harbor. people packed the center to watch the launch on the big screen set up just for the occasion. many were upset that the program is coming to a close, folks pointed out, this isn't the end of space exploration for the u.s.. they want to go to the moon and back to mars. they need a different delivery system to get people there. the shuttle has done its service. it's time to move on now. they've built the international space station. >> reporter: they'll have a live tv feed as well. >>> today was a big day for the owners of a charles village pub, they're rebuilding the restaurant. fire burned it to the ground in january. the new pub will have more space and include a rooftop deck and patio and more employees. they'll be back open by next year. >>> a panel on t

and tony. the weather is the big question. thunderstorms are in the forecast for the space shuttle's launch. here at nasa godard, everyone is watching and waiting keeping their fingers crossed that the skies will clear and all system go. the space shuttle atlantis is fueled and ready to go on the launch pad at the kennedy space center. it is the last shuttle flight for the 30-year-old program which began with columbia, 1981. it's estimated that about a million people are gathering along the west coast of florida to watch the final shuttle mission. weather remains a concern with a 70% chance of thunderstorms or rain threatening to delay. atlantis must take off by sunday or monday or it will have to wait until july 16th before it launches again. when the mess is over, atlantis will join discovery and endeavour. next, sending astronauts to asteroids or to mars. future missions to the international space station will be handled by private space vehicles. they are in development right now and it's not expected to be another three fire years before they are ready to launch. so, keep your eyes out

here, we're tracking the numbers when it comes to rainfall and that is a big deal because flash flooding is going to be an issue. >> it is. more so hail or damaging wind. flash flooding is the main issue with this. we're looking at a flash flood watch until about midnight. severe thunderstorm watch until 9:00 p.m. a little bit ahead of schedule in terms of our timetable. that's good news. it gets out of here quicker. the highlighted yellows there, that's the severe thunderstorm warning down toward fredericksburg and stafford county. also to the south of town. in through charles county and answer arundel county. the watch continues until 9:00. i think though if you're in leesburg and back into winchester and culpepper, i think the threat of severe weather is just about over. here's why. look at this intense line of showers and thunderstorms from almost baltimore on the east side of 95 all the way to the east in through prince george's county and backcrossing over 95 just north of fredericksburg. these are heavy rainfall makers and a lot of flash flooding going on. so, don't cross

. than we go into saturday -- saturday and then you see a big smile because we are looking pretty good going into saturday and sunday. early saturday morning we could have residual rain. but then we will gradually clear out. nicely going throughout the day and end up with plenty of sunshine that will linger as we go into sunday. once again for today, the temperature coming in right around 86 degrees. the showers and thunderstorms a flash flood watch through the evening and then by tonight, that temperature right around 69 degrees. still more of the say, very soupy, very humid outside and then tomorrow, that temperature coming in right around 88 degrees. and again they are at a.m. showers i am talking about as possible. so it's not a guaranteed thing. and then that gradual clearing is guaranteed as we go throughout the day. here's the 7-day forecast. i know you like it. saturday, nice and dry, 88 degrees. 90 going into sunday and the key there is the fact that we will be less humid going throughout the weekend. as we go into next week, though, the showers and thunderstorms return and it

mann, a big sculpture, it was great. chairperson kim: i know you talked a little bit -- the seat is important as one of the few residents seats on the entertainment commission. we took off and on the board and in the public about the tension between the night life and community residents. some of your role will be to mediate that. what are some ideas you have in terms of outreach and some ways you think entertainment and residents can work together in cooperation so interests are not always in opposition? >> i think they are in opposition a lot more than they need to be. i really believe in this idea that residents want entertainment options. most of them that live in a neighborhood where there is entertainment -- some are there for other reasons, but a lot of times people recognize that. i do not want that to be misconstrued as "you move into the neighborhood and that is the way it is." i do not feel that way at all. people want entertainment options, but want them run responsibly. having that dialogue and really working on -- i think the commission has done a great job on their
